Avodart
Avodart is a prescription medication that is often prescribed for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) which is an enlargement of the prostate gland that is not malignant.
During both clinical studies as well as in reports coming in from men currently using this pharmaceutical, it has been shown to be effective in treating pattern baldness as well.
Although it has not been approved for use as a hair loss treatment by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States, there is ample evidence to support the fact that it can effectively inhibit hair loss and promote new growth.
Who Should Use Avodart
Obviously, the only persons who can use Avodart are men who have been prescribed the medication. However, like Propecia, it should not be used or handled by pregnant women since it is known to have the ability to cause birth defects in male fetuses. It specifically affects the male reproduction organs in the fetus.
How Does Avodart Work
Avodart works by inhibiting the secretion of and the damage caused by Dihydrotestosterone which is a byproduct of testosterone. DHT is proven to damage and even kill hair follicles so Avodart reduces the amount of damage that that can be caused by this male hormone. It not only helps to reduce the secretion of this hormone but it is known to have anti-inflammatory properties that can lessen the damage to hair follicles from that perspective as well.
How Effective is Avodart
Since there have been no actual scientific studies that were conducted specifically in terms of hair loss, the only verifiable documentation is in terms of the ‘side effects’ when studies and trials were conducted in relation to BPH. In light of that, the efficacy is extremely promising. At one point research was initiated and then abruptly halted. It is theorized that studies were halted because it would have conflicted with Propecia in some way, shape or form. Although specific studies have not been conducted in relation to hair loss, significant results have been reported.
How to Get Avodart
At this point in time, the only way to purchase Avodart in the United States is with a prescription obtained from a physician. However, it is possible to purchase Avodart from an online ‘drug store’ or pharmaceutical provider as well as in local pharmacies.
Disclaimer: Avodart has not been approved as a treatment for hair loss even though it shows significant promise in restoring hair growth. Also, it should never be ingested or handled by a pregnant woman because it can cause birth defects in the sex organs of a male fetus. Although it is only prescribed at this point in time for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia, men with that condition are reporting remarkable positive ‘side effects’ in relation to hair loss and re-growth.
