Rogaine
Rogaine is the pioneer in topical hair loss products and has been in use successfully for the better part of four decades.
It was first introduced in the 1970’s and as further scientific research with corresponding clinical studies has evolved, the effectiveness has improved significantly.
It is the only FDA approved topical treatment for both men and women suffering from Androgenetic Alopecia, a genetic form of hair loss often referred to as Pattern Baldness or Pattern Hair Loss.
Who Should Use Rogaine
Any adult who has been diagnosed with Androgenetic Alopecia is able to benefit from Rogaine. There are products developed specifically for men and products designed for women. In 1988 the first 2% topical solution was approved for use by men and followed shortly thereafter in 1992 with the same strength being approved for use by women. Both were prescription only topical pharmaceutical preparations. In 1996 both became available as OTC products without the need for a prescription and in 1997 an extra strength 5% OTC solution was approved for men while a revolutionary 5% foam for men became available in 2006.
How Does Rogaine Work
In pattern baldness the cause of hair loss is the shrinking of the hair follicle that eventually disintegrates it altogether. The shrinking is caused by hormones and/or age. Rogaine works by preventing shrinkage and is also known to reverse shrinking whereby new growth is able to take place.
How Effective is Rogaine
There are more than twenty years of documented clinical trials and more than 20,000 people participated in those studies. Currently, statistics indicate that Rogaine is effective in promoting new growth in more than 85% of men after using Rogaine twice daily as directed after a period of four months. Similar results have been evidenced in the women’s formulation within the same timeframe.
How to Get Rogaine
Rogaine is available both in local retail stores as well as from online merchants. There are a couple of factors that should be considered when purchasing Rogaine. First of all, it is possible to find coupons, discounts and promotional offers if some time is spent searching for the best deals. But even more important than price, one of the main considerations should be the shelf life of the product. Quite often buying from online retailers provides for a ‘fresher’ product because it hasn’t been sitting on a shelf for any great length of time. It is an unfortunate fact that many retailers just don’t keep up with inventory as they should and quite often products are sold after the recommended ‘sell by’ date.
Since Rogaine is approved for OTC use by both men and women, it is often the ‘product of choice’ because it has proven to be effective and can be purchased without a costly visit to the dermatologist. However, it is always recommended that you consult your doctor prior to using any products for the first time. Also, it is essential to get a proper diagnosis as to the type of hair loss you are experiencing.
